I fumbled for the cell phone on my nightstand. As I shoved the mascara brush back into its tube, I smeared a black streak across my palm. "Dammit." I tried not to transfer gooey make up to the keypad. "Hello?"

Addy's voice chimed over the connection. "Mary? I have…ummm…a question for you."

A rogue's blue eyes flashed in my mind. I knew who'd put her up to this. "Shoot it at me."

"How would you…" Deep breath. Long sigh. "How would you feel if I slept with Shamus?"

I chewed the inside of my cheek, tried not to laugh at my step brother's schoolboy antics. He was smart to use Addy, the queen of can't say no, for this mission. "Let me ask you a question. Would you like to sleep with my step brother?"

"Well…" A pause, in which it sounded like she gnawed her fingernail. "Well…so long as it won't damage our friendship in any way."

"Addy, sweetheart, have at it."

"Seriously?"

"Seriously."

"But what about you two--"

"I've made a decision. I don't want a relationship right now. I'm 23 years old, and I want to start living. I've got two months before my trip to Europe. In that time I plan to fuck who I want and have fun. I plan on doing the same when I get overseas." Before I hung up, I added, "And you can tell Shamus that the next time you see him. Although, I thought he and I were already clear on this."
